A little background, in March 2025, Abby was in her last semester at BYU. Jackson was in his redshirt freshman season.

Todd Phillips (Jackson's head basketball coach and Abby's uncle) had been telling Abby to go out with Jackson since the fall of 2023. Abby had a rule that she would not date any of Todd's players. During that time (redshirt year 23-24), Jackson told his teammates every time he saw Abby at the games, "If I ever get in the portal I'm going to ask her out."

Todd kept telling Abby to go out with Jackson. Abby decided it was time to go out with Jackson in February 2025. Bobbi (Todd's wife & Abby's Aunt) talked to Stacey Holcombe (Jackson's mom) to see if Jackson was dating anyone at the time. Stacey assured Bobbi that he was not. Stacey told Jackson at Sunday dinner that his head coaches niece thought he was cute. Jackson said, "Wait the hot one?!".

After that, Jackson started liking Abby's stories on Instagram. After the WAC tournament in March 2025, Abby slid into Jackson's DM's. We ended up going out on our first date March 26, 2025. We never stopped going out after that. The rest is history.
